這兩個雕像背後的故事其實是一個在喬治亞所有人都知道的愛情故事。這個故事是來自1937年的一本叫做”Ali and Nino”的小說,裡面訴說著一名回教男生和基督教的公主在布爾什維克的年代被拆散的淒美愛情故事,劇情跟我們都知道的「羅密歐與茱麗葉」很像。

在故事中,男孩和公主墮入愛河,但是為了保衛自己國家而戰死。為了要紀念這個美麗愛情,喬治亞藝術家Tamar Kvesitadze創作了這對雕像,讓他們終於能夠重逢。
每到晚間7PM的時候,男孩和公主就會開始向對方移動。
